THE “SENSATIONAL” ASENZ REGIONAL CONFERENCES

This year we will be having 3 regional conferences lasting one and a half days each, as opposed to the usual two day conference plus post-conference workshop.

These three participative events will provide us with great information about what our members want to include in the 2009 full conference, which we will be planning in line with this years events.

The rationale for this change being that we have run very successful conferences each of the past few years, and last years conference included several overseas speakers. So we believe that we need to give our members a bit of a change in approach, without losing the positive momentum that we have developed during the past few years.

It also fits in with regard to the development of closer working relationships with VASS and consideration for those who are members of both organisations. This year VASS have a full conference and we have these three regional events. We do wish to work together to ensure that our national conferences do not clash each year.

Also we believe it makes good sense as three regional conferences will enable more people to attend as there will be less travel and accommodation costs and it doesn't keep people away from their workplaces so long. This means that some agencies will be able to send more of their staff locally as well as possibly attending the event in a different place. (Particularly considering that the AGM will take place on day one of the Wellington event).

Each event would be similar in content but with some regional differences.

The ASENZ Awards for 2008

As we near our Regional Conferences, we are reminded of the annual ASENZ awards. This year we have the same awards as last year except that we will have regional winners, so there will be 3 winners of each award. With regard to the Sages Hall of Fame, once more the Board will select up to 3 people to receive this honour.

ASENZ Training Workshops

The Diploma and Certificate in Employment Support

The development of these two NZQA programmes is almost complete. See HERE to get the latest on it

“Developing SUPER Vision”
Mentoring, Supervision and Coaching in Supported Employment.

A two-day programme for managers and leaders and anyone who aspires to improve their "leadership" potential. This programme will present a model that can be used in the development of staff or clients, and can be utilised in many other areas.

Presented by Ian Harper and Magdel Hammond

“Leadership Metamorphosis”
The light and dark sides of the transition to leadership in the “not for profit” sector.

A two-day programme aimed at people who are new to leadership positions, or who aspire to become positive leaders in their field. It’s also good for experienced leaders who wish to be “refreshed”.

Presented by Ian Harper and Tyron Pini

"Marketing Supported Employment"

A one-day workshop – Presented By Pam Greenlee

The Marketing Supported Employment Workshop provides participants with the crucial information on the ‘how to’ of marketing.

This has been and will continue to be one of the key training workshops that Consultants request (particularly for those of you who are new to the field) as it addresses questions that are frequently asked:

How do we find jobs? How do we market our job seekers (or agencies)? What do we do when the going gets tough? How do we facilitate meetings, conduct employer negotiations, or address employers concerns?

"The Career Planning Workshop"

A One Day Workshop : Presented By Pam Greenlee

This workshop aims to provide participants with the knowledge and the skills in conducting a career plan (several different career planning examples are provided) and explains the vital role that a professionally conducted career plan has for the job seeker (and for you as the Consultant) in planning for and securing paid employment.

"Supported Employment: An Introduction to Practice"

A two-day workshop.

"The Personal Plans Workshop"

There are two main reasons why this workshop was created;

1. So that the whole of the supported employment process (the steps and main activities required in each step) from initial interview to placement and ongoing support can be seen between the career planning and development plan workshop.

2. Because of the concern over the fact that plans are often made (this is typically part of agency responsibilities to funders) but not always implemented.

This workshop covers everything that happens after career planning (excluding marketing/approaching employers as this is covered in the marketing workshop) and provides a process to ensure goals decided through the career planning process are implemented.

"Strategic Planning Made Easy"

A one-day workshop developed and presented in an extraordinary manner by: Ian Harper (Executive Officer – ASENZ and Director – STEM:NZ)

A Strategic plan is like a road map; this map is especially important when you are in unfamiliar territory, such as when your organisation develops new services and programmes, or your market or industry changes. As your organisation takes necessary new directions you need to recognise the key areas to focus on along the way and take a reliable route to the planned destination.

"Use of the six thinking hats in Supported Employment"

”This two day programme has been designed and presented by: Sue Willmore (Co-Manager) and Jacque Biggs (Employment Advisor) from Poly-Emp, Employment & Advisory Service

This workshop will introduce participants to the “six thinking hats”, the roles of the individual hats and how the hats are used. It will give participants the resources to use with the people they support.

The presenters will teach participants how to design a focus map. The group will have the opportunity to work with the six thinking hats and discover their potential for use in Supported Employment.
